5 tips for gut health and healthy skin

Updated: May 26, 2022

Healthy skin is your best showcase! It can impact not only how others perceive you, but also, how you feel about yourself. However, most importantly, it is a reflection of your overall health! If we think of it this way, it is actually good that our skin sends us easy-to-spot signals that there are challenges lying much deeper! Are you one of those struggling with various skin ailments and blemishes? You are in the right place!

We all know that high-quality, natural skincare is essential, but the full action plan needs a couple more steps. A good cream is not enough. Healthy skin goes hand in hand with a well-thought diet and good digestion. Basically, the state of your face reflects what's happening in your guts and any cosmetic will not cover the consequences of too many toxins in your body.

Clean your colon regularly

The colon (the large intestine) is an important organ in the digestive system. This is where the overall cleansing of the organism should begin. If you don't remove the deposits and bad cultures of bacteria that produce toxins, it will be poisoning other organs... regularly!

Your detox can start with purchasing a colon-cleansing product. Another option is getting an enema or colonic irrigation, a treatment where the practitioner flushes out the organ with gallons of water being sent to the body through a tube inside of a person's rectum.

Once you say "yes" to the cleansing, you will see a number of benefits. It flattens the abdomen, helps us lose weight, adds a boost of energy, and improves the skin a couple of days later!

Keep your body and skin hydrated

Drinking the right amount of water is essential in regulating digestion! Those involved in the water flush for colon cleansing recommend drinking six to eight glasses of lukewarm water per day. To make it tasty, you can add a few drops of lemon to it. It's a great way to "wake up" your digestive system, stimulating it to "act." What we mean here are regular and daily bowel movements, key for detoxification. To stay hydrated, remember to include drinking water as part of your routine, preferably before meals or for at least 2 hours after them.

Eat whole-grain foods

Are you a fan of white flour products? You need to know that these provide empty calories, without any nutritional value. Our bodies are smart and they can react in a number of ways. One of them is forming deposits in the body.

To understand it a bit better, we can take a closer look at the production process. The outer layers (cover and aleurone layer) are completely removed from the grains, which are extremely nutritive. It is just the same with rice, where its brown version is much richer in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, located in the outer shell (called the silver shell).

3 learnings for you? Fall in love with wholemeal flour products like bread, or pasta. Choose natural brown rice. Consume loads of coarse groats.

Dedicate one day to veggies and fruits

At least once a month, select a day with just vegetables and fruits on your menu. Go for the raw version, leaving the peel on your fruits. Your body will thank you for enzymes, microelements, and vitamins. Such a diet alkalizes and detoxifies, and strengthens its own self-healing mechanisms. All about restoring the inner balance! Freshly prepared vegetable juices are also welcome. They will support your hydration.

Get more probiotics

Probiotics are brilliant in cleansing the colon and boosting overall health. You can either choose good supplements or start by including more and more probiotic-rich foods. These are yogurts, kimchi, pickles, and other fermented products. An idea is also apple cider vinegar, with enzymes and acids that supposedly suppress bad bacteria. However, there are no studies on this... yet!

They introduce good bacteria to the gut with the help of fiber and resistant starches. These curb inflammation and stimulate regularity, two elements of digestive health related to the colon.

Healthy skin is just around the corner

Now you know how to take care of your diet, but at Mandala Balance, we know that another puzzle is choosing the right cosmetics. Make sure to select the most natural ones that can really feed the needs of your body.
